HOME HILL MEMBERS SAY FAREWELL TO SOUTHERN VISITORS AND WELCOME NEW ONES

It does not seem that long ago the club featured looking forward to being reunited with our regular southern visitors. Now, some three months on, a few have decided the time has come to return home, leaving Home Hill members to say farewell to three who have given their support to our club. However, as the saying goes, all good things eventually come to an end.

We extend to Keith and Jo Roser from Jervis Bay, NSW, and John Hobson from O'Connell, NSW, a safe journey back to their home towns. Home Hill members have enjoyed the time spent with them all and look forward to meeting up again in 2027. All three players will be missed not only for their personalities but also for their bowling skills. John, on his last day, was lucky enough to take out the random rink win featured in the article photo.

On a brighter side, members had the pleasure of welcoming southern visitors Gay Pados from Wollongong, NSW, Graham Smith from Rosebud, Victoria, and Dee Redden from Orroroo, South Australia. We trust they enjoyed their time with us and return when visiting the Burdekin again. It was also pleasing to see neighbouring club members Len Feeney, Vince Beatia, Ken Ferguson and Allan Garioch from Brandon pay us a visit. Neighbouring club support is always appreciated and respectfully supported in return.

Club Championships

This week saw Jeff Taylor and Bruce McCallum play off, with Jeff Taylor taking the win in reasonably comfortable fashion.

In the second game, Margaret Chapman and Betty Webb played off, with Margaret Chapman taking the win. Betty's loss will only give her the strength and determination to continue to improve and carry on to greater heights, being her first attempt at the singles championship.

The third game was held between Tony Edie and Jeff Phillips, which turned out to be a hard, tough encounter, going to 27 ends before Tony Edie finally took the win.

Club Games

Club social game results were as follows. On Rink Two, Mick McCloskey, Ken Ferguson and Gordon Braid had a convincing win over Bruce Ross, Steve Mutu and Janet Arthur. On Rink Four, Keith Roser, Rob Darr and Dean Taylor had a close encounter over Joe Linton, Judy Elton and Paul Vass. On Rink Five, John Hobson, Vince Beatia and Mark Pierce had a comfortable win over Glenn Berryman, Len Feeney and Terry Feakes. On Rink Seven, Alex Bojack, Bob Pickard and Chris Holden had a good encounter played in good spirits, taking a win over Ron Smith, Les Hoey and Dee Redden. On Rink Eight, Jo Roser, Graham Smith and Gay Pados had a convincing win over Allan Garioch, Dino Poli and Katarina Stucker.

Congratulations to all the winning teams. Remember, winners are grinners, but what counts is the enjoyment of competing.

Random rink winners for the afternoon were John Hobson, Vince Beatia and Mark Pierce. Congratulations.

The raffle for the day, featuring seafood, was won by Steve Mutu, with second prize, a bottle of wine, going to Vince Beatia.

Saturday afternoon bowls was also well supported, with the championship game held between Tony Edie and Jeff Phillips, along with two games of pairs and one game of triples.
