St Colman’s Church in Home Hill has marked 100 years since the establishment of the Catholic Parish in Home Hill and district, with parishioners and friends gathering for a commemorative Mass and celebrations last Sunday.
The Mass was concelebrated by Catholic Bishop of Townsville Most Rev. Timothy J Harris and Burdekin Catholic Parish Administrator Rev. Fr Manoj Mathew, C.Ss.R. Music was provided by the Italian Choir and students from St Colman’s Catholic Primary School.
Celebrations continued at the Parish Centre, where Bishop Harris and parishioner Paola Romero, who celebrated her 100th birthday this year, cut a commemorative cake, assisted by Fathers Manoj and Truong.

The gathering included recorded memories from parishioners, a parade of debutante dresses, performances by school students and a digital photographic record documenting the church’s clergy, religious and parish groups over the years.
Attendees also shared morning tea provided by the St Colman’s community, with many taking the opportunity to reminisce about the parish’s history.
Organisers thanked those who assisted in bringing the centenary celebrations together.
A commemorative booklet is also available, documenting 100 years of local history, with a focus on St Colman’s Parish from 1893 to the present day. The parish now forms part of the wider Burdekin Catholic Parish.
