Burdekin residents will gather at the Burdekin Theatre later next month to remember lives lost to domestic and family violence and show support for survivors.

The Community Candlelight Vigil will be held on Wednesday, November 25, with community members invited to arrive at the theatre forecourt from 5.30pm ahead of proceedings starting at 6pm.

‍

About 100 people attended last year’s vigil. The event aims to raise awareness of domestic and family violence and encourage the community to work towards a safer future.

Burdekin Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort said the event was an opportunity to remember victims, support those affected and reinforce the message that violence has no place in the community.

‍

“Domestic and family violence has a devastating impact on individuals, families and our wider community,” Ms Dalle Cort said.

“It is important that we come together to remember those we have lost, support survivors and send a clear message that violence has no place in our community.”

‍

A free sausage sizzle will be provided, with the event supported by Burdekin Shire Council, Queensland Police Service, Burdekin Community Association, Burdekin Neighbourhood Centre and Zonta Club Burdekin.

The vigil is free to attend and open to the community.
