Normally the setting of plays and songs, The Lighthouse instead played host to right answers and many wrongs in Ayr last Thursday as Zylon Dallecort’s trivia night kicked off the 2026 Water Festival ambassador event catalogue.

Emceed by Burdekin Neighbourhood Centre Coordinator Natalie Saroglia and Dallecort himself—one of four senior ambassadors—the event raised over $2,000 for sponsor organisations CORES Queensland and the BNC, the cherry on top of a jovial, vibrant social affair.

The first senior ambassador-led event of the year, Dallecort set the bar high for his peers, leading the event which garnered the support of over 130 people.

The former Ayr State High School student said he was blown away by the community response.

“We were going to limit the event to about 80 people, but we kept getting RSVP's and thought, ‘let’s just open it up,’” he said.

Representing CORES Queensland and the BNC as Water Festival ambassador, Dallecort said it was pleasing to see such support for two of the community's cornerstone organisations.

More than 10 teams put their knowledge to the test across a range of categories.

“Seeing everyone come together for the same cause was the best thing. Mental health and the community are two big things that connect well with all of us… and it was really nice to see it all come together,” he said.

Dallecort said the event was a culmination of days of preparation, thanking the team at BNC and Ross Romeo from CORES for their efforts in helping bring the final product to fruition.

Sponsored by Sunwater, the event also included a fundraising sausage sizzle as guests settled in.

It kicks off a calendar of events hosted by his fellow senior ambassadors, each evaluated throughout the program ahead of the official crowning at the Mardi Gras in September.

Blaise Palmer’s Touch Footy Competition, Ella Pirrone’s Bingo and Bubbles, and Olivia Pavone’s Dog Walk are all set to take place next month as part of the ambassador program.
