Mixed Touch Football Season Kicks Off As Burdekin Competition Grows

The Burdekin Mixed Touch Football competition has kicked off for another season, with 16 teams taking to the field and early premiership contenders already emerging.

Alliance Pharmacy and Slush Puppies have made strong starts to their campaigns and have been identified as teams to watch in the race for the A Grade title.

Alliance Pharmacy secured an 11-3 win over Untouchables, while Slush Puppies defeated Redskins 13-5.

One Touch Wonders recorded an 8-3 victory against Renegades, with One Touch IT edging Way To Go 8-7.

SSS claimed a narrow 8-7 win over Touch Potatoes, while Blue Murder defeated East Ayr 7-5.

Astute also secured a close victory, defeating QMN Petrol Heads 6-5.

Final team nominations will remain open this week, with players and teams able to register through the Burdekin Touch Football website.

A new Fast Four competition has also commenced on Wednesday nights, providing an opportunity for players unable to form or join a mixed team, as well as existing mixed team players wanting an additional game.

‍

Fast Four matches are played following the mixed games, with two teams of four competing on half a field.

Meanwhile, the Friday Junior Touch season has recorded a strong turnout, with more than 60 boys and girls aged between four and 12 signing on.

‍

Organisers are seeking assistance from senior players to help coach the next generation of touch footballers.

Friday Junior Touch runs from 5.30pm to 6.15pm.

Off the field, work has continued at the club, with the block wall surrounding the fields now complete.

‍

The club thanked all sponsors who have contributed a block, with further sponsorship opportunities still available for $100.
