The Burdekin has stamped its mark on the opening rounds of the 2026 Aussie Flat Track Nationals, with four local riders taking on Australia's best and emerging among the championship contenders after an action-packed weekend at Maryborough.
Riders from across the country descended on the iconic Maryborough circuit for Rounds 1 and 2 of the inaugural national series, where fierce competition, high-speed bar-to-bar racing and challenging Flat Track and TT layouts tested every competitor. With qualifying sessions determining the starting fields and championship points awarded in every race, the stakes were high from the moment the gates dropped.
The Burdekin contingent rose to the occasion, with all four local riders successfully qualifying to race against some of the nation's top flat track talent.
Leading the local charge is Ryke Haller, who sits third overall in the Junior Lites Championship after a consistent and determined opening weekend.
Joining Haller near the top of the championship leaderboard is Ryder Vass, who currently holds third overall in the fiercely contested Junior 85cc Championship.
In the Pro Women category, Claire Davies has made an impressive start to her national campaign and currently sits seventh in the championship standings. Meanwhile, River Vass also impressed by qualifying for the national field and collecting valuable championship points to finish the opening rounds 16th overall in the Junior 85cc Championship.
With two rounds complete, the championship battle is only just beginning. The Burdekin riders have given themselves a strong platform heading into the next phase of the series and will now set their sights on Rounds 3 and 4 at Diamond Park, Albury-Wodonga, Victoria, on 29-30th August.
As Australia's best flat track riders continue their battle for national honours, the Burdekin quartet will be looking to build on their early success and keep themselves firmly in championship contention.
