With the sugar cane harvest wrapping up early this year, I’m sure many people are also taking the opportunity to do a bit of spring cleaning around the house. It never ceases to amaze me just how much dust can build up in the gauze, but there’s certainly something rewarding about finishing the job and having everything feeling fresh again.
While you’re doing those jobs around the home, it’s also a good opportunity to think about disaster preparedness.
November marks the beginning of our disaster season, and it’s a timely reminder for all of us to make sure we’re prepared for whatever the coming months may bring.
Check around the yard, clear gutters, tidy up loose items and make sure your household emergency plan and emergency kit are ready. A little preparation now can make a big difference if severe weather comes our way.
Last Friday we enjoyed another wonderful Seniors Luncheon and Expo. The event continues to be incredibly popular, and unfortunately the Memorial Hall simply isn’t big enough to accommodate everyone who wanted to attend this year.
I would like to thank Ozcare for their support, along with all of the stallholders who showcased their services and provided information and assistance throughout the day. We are very fortunate to have access to these services and facilities here in the Burdekin, something many smaller communities simply don’t have.
It was wonderful to see so many people catching up, enjoying themselves and heading home with bags full of goodies.
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to catching up with many of you around the community. As always, if you have any questions or would like to discuss any Council matters, please contact me directly by phone on 0447 150 582 or by email at mayor@burdekin.qld.gov.au.
