COUPLE PRAISES AYR HOSPITAL STAFF AFTER ‘HIGHEST ORDER’ OF CARE

A visiting couple has praised Ayr’s emergency services and hospital staff for their compassion and professionalism after a serious ankle injury left a 76-year-old woman requiring surgery.

‍

Brian and June Weston were staying at Alva Beach Caravan Park when June’s left ankle suddenly gave way, resulting in a dislocation and fracture.

The couple said the care June received from Queensland Ambulance Service officers and staff at Ayr Hospital was of the “highest order” before June was transferred to Townsville University Hospital on the evening of 9th October.

‍

In a message of thanks, Brian praised the doctors, nurses, X-ray staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other hospital employees who cared for his wife.

“On behalf of my wife and myself, I wish to publicly show our sincere thanks and gratitude for the truly professional services provided to my wife by both the Ayr QAS but also the Ayr Hospital,” he said.

‍

“For this we will both be eternally grateful.”

‍

A former Queensland Police officer with decades of service, Brian said he understood the challenges faced by first responders and other frontline workers, who “rarely receive the recognition so richly deserved.”

Brian said the Burdekin community was fortunate to have such dedicated professionals caring for residents and visitors alike.

‍

“The Burdekin community are blessed to have such professionals caring for them and like us, other people visiting the Burdekin region,” he said.

‍

June subsequently underwent surgery on her ankle and remains a patient at Townsville University Hospital, with plans being considered for her transfer to a rehabilitation unit.
