The Burdekin Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas Street Party will not go ahead this year, confirmed incoming president Reg Huston.
Mr Huston said there was “not enough time this year,” with the new executive committee sworn in just last week.
“The new committee is still settling in and work needed to start before the middle of the year. The outgoing committee didn't feel there was enough certainty for them to action things earlier,” Mr Huston said.
The December event has become a major fixture on the Burdekin community calendar, with former president Eusebio Aguirre claiming it injected millions of dollars into local businesses over the past two years alone.
Former Vice President Gary Roser said the loss of the event would be felt across the entire community, rather than just among local businesses.
Mr Huston said the Chamber was aiming to bring the event back in 2027.
“We are very lucky to have a template and offers of guidance from the outgoing committee,” he said.
“There are a lot of positive comments about those events and we will be working for the event to return.”
