I survived my first cyclone!
And I’m grateful to be able to say I got through it without a single issue.
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Kirrily hit the Burdekin last Thursday evening, bringing with it strong winds and rain.
A lot of people lost power for multiple days which, considering the weather’s quick revert to heatwave conditions, would not have been pleasant, I’m sure.
I was prepared for a weekend without any electricity-fuelled entertainment, equipped with candles, books, puzzles and knitting equipment, but fortunately, I didn’t lose power once and was able to continue to watch cricket and tennis throughout the weekend.
Whatever impact the cyclone had on you and your friends and family, I hope all is well.
On an unrelated note, I’ve recently been to the doctor for a skin check and been told that three sunspots need to go.
At the time of writing, two of these have been removed and, being the squeamish person that I am, I find myself in a bit of discomfort with two sets of stitches in me and one more soon to come.
Of course, I know this discomfort is minor and temporary and these spots are better out than in.
Once the third is removed, I’ll have had six sunspots removed throughout my 27 years.
I’m often told that this is a lot for my age, and I admit I probably opted not to apply sunscreen a few too many times in childhood years spent in the paddock, at the beach or on the cricket field.
I want to take this opportunity to urge everyone, no matter your age, to take a look at every part of your body and keep an eye on spots that seem unusual.
Or, even better, head down to the doctor for a skin check.
