Australian Opals stars Cayla George and Courtney Woods will lead a series of free basketball and leadership clinics for young women in the Burdekin on Saturday, 29th of August.

The She Hoops events, hosted at the Burdekin Basketball Stadium, will feature coaching from the current national team stars alongside former WNBL player Jess McDowell-White and FIBA referee Jacqui Dover.

The day will begin with the Indigenous Leadership Program from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Delivered in partnership with the Aboriginal Basketball Academy, the holistic program is designed for Indigenous girls aged 12 to 17, focusing on developing physical, social, and emotional skills.

A general basketball clinic open to all girls aged 6 to 17 will follow from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, offering court skill-building and strategy sessions to athletes of all skill levels.

Founded by three-time WNBA MVP and Olympic medallist Lauren Jackson, She Hoops is a national initiative aimed at empowering, educating, and inspiring women and girls across all levels of basketball, from players to coaches, officials, and administrators.

The organisation stops in Ayr as part of a regional roadshow designed to promote female participation and build community connection across the North.

Both sessions are completely free to attend, but registration is required prior to the event. Local families and players can find further details and sign-up links via the official Burdekin Basketball Facebook page.
