One of the most important messages I want to share this week is the importance of looking after our health.

The BreastScreen Queensland mobile service is currently in Ayr, and I am encouraging all women, particularly those over 40, to make an appointment. This is a valuable service for our community, and if attendance continues to decline there is a risk we could lose local access in the future.

I make it a priority to have a screening every two years when the van visits the Burdekin. The appointment takes only around 15 minutes, it is free, and it could save your life.

‍

When you hear about the incredible work our local Zonta volunteers do, continually making breast cushions for women recovering from surgery and struggling to keep up with demand, it serves as an important reminder that breast cancer affects many women and families in our community.

There are several ways to book. You can call 13 20 50, book online through BreastScreen Queensland, or visit the mobile service to make an appointment.

Speaking of connecting with the community, I will be holding my next Catch Up with the Mayor at the Clare Sports & Recreation Club this Friday from 6pm to 8pm. Whether you have a question, suggestion, concern or simply an idea you'd like to share, I would love to hear from you.

School holidays are also upon us once again. With the beautiful weather we're currently enjoying, many families will no doubt be heading to the creeks, beaches and local parks to spend some quality time together. I also encourage families to check out what's on at our Burdekin libraries, which have a range of activities and programs planned during the holiday period.
