Get ready to “Twist & Shout” as Beatlemania On Tour brings its internationally acclaimed production to the Burdekin Memorial Hall in Home Hill on Wednesday 29 April 2026 at 7.30pm, for one night only. Since its launch in 2009, the Australian-based show has built a formidable global reputation, selling out performances across North America, Europe, South Africa, the Middle East, Asia and New Zealand. After a decade away from Australia’s east coast, the production is now returning with a high-energy tribute to the music that defined a generation. Audiences can expect a two-hour audio-visual spectacular featuring more than 40 of the greatest hits by The Beatles, performed live in their original keys with meticulous attention to detail. Replica costumes, period instruments and theatrical lighting combine to recreate the look and sound of the 1960s, capturing the spirit of the world’s most influential band. The setlist reads like a greatest-hits time capsule, including classics such as Hey Jude, All You Need Is Love, Yellow Submarine, Let It Be, Twist & Shout, Yesterday, Come Together, Get Back, Help!, Eleanor Rigby and Here Comes the Sun, among many others. Behind the production is a cast of seasoned musicians, including Zachary Coombs, who performs the role of John Lennon. Coombs’ connection to the music runs deeper than most. Named after Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, he grew up in a musical household influenced by jazz, rock and 90s pop. He first picked up the guitar as a teenager before discovering The Beatles at 15 after receiving their 1 compilation album. “I fell in love with every single song,” Coombs recalled, describing the moment as a turning point that led him to explore the band’s entire catalogue. After years touring internationally as a solo cruise ship performer, Coombs joined Beatlemania in 2014, later stepping into the role of John Lennon. He has also performed as Paul McCartney and George Harrison in earlier productions, drawing on what he describes as “the magic within the music itself.” He says the key to portraying Lennon lies in understanding the balance of musicianship and attitude. “If the musicians are having fun on stage, it becomes infectious,” Coombes said. The show also features fellow performers portraying Ringo Starr and the rest of the iconic line-up, with attention to every musical and visual detail. For Coombs and the cast, the appeal of Beatles music lies in its universality, with songs built on themes of love, peace and connection that continue to resonate across generations. “This is more than a concert,” organisers say. “It’s a celebration of music history.” Tickets are available now at burdekintheatre.com.au. Alaya Mugica (15) — NQ Fast Track Talent Showcase ‘Fast Track to Fame’ Award Winner Alaya Mugica had her sights set on her finals song, ‘I Will Survive’ by Donna Summer, two months in advance of the NQ Fast Track Talent Showcase, a choice based upon her “authentic, personal connection with the song.” “This song was one I would play every morning, even during a really low time in my life, as it was always able to brighten my spirit for the day,” she said. After meticulous preparation in the lead-up to the event, she took to the stage with the simple goal of “delivering the same amount of energy to the audience the song always delivered to me.” That she did, in turn earning her the coveted ‘Fast Track to Fame’ award. For Alaya, the award is a culmination of an ardent passion for music nurtured since childhood, and six years of development under Amaia Blakey (nee Licciardello) and Perform Music Studios. “Music was always something that felt so natural to me and has always been something I’ve loved and forever will,” she said. Alaya’s repertoire spans multiple instruments and genres, largely favouring what she enjoys listening to. “When performing, I feel I gravitate towards indie-pop and pop-rock. I do sometimes like to incorporate Spanish and French songs and verses as well,” she said. “I have forever been most comfortable with a guitar. Although it was suggested to have piano as my more ‘dominant’ instrument, I could not deal with the thought of leaving my guitar.” Music shifted from a mere dream to a real possibility when, following a musical theatre workshop in Townsville last year, Alaya was invited by international tenor Paul Tabone to begin one-on-one Classical Melocchi vocal coaching at The Artists Lab. The program provides training in singing, acting and dancing for aspiring performers aiming for the international stage. Looking ahead, Alaya hopes to continue to develop her song-writing and technique under the tutelage of The Artists Lab. “This opportunity has truly been an incredible journey for me so far,” she said. “I hope with more experience and song writing, this will allow me to understand and foster the kind of artist I am and where to go from there."

Milla Licciardello (16) — NQ Fast Track Talent Showcase Runner-Up It was just six days before the NQ Fast Track Talent Showcase that Milla Licciardello decided to throw her hat in the ring. By week’s end, she walked out of the Burdekin Memorial Hall as runner-up, impressing judges with a rendition of “I Hate Boston” by Reneé Rapp and a soulful performance of “Gone” by Lianne La Havas. Milla says her true affinity for music cemented itself just recently. The teenager has been performing for the past 10 years, taking part in the Perform Studios annual concert each year. But it wasn’t until she was 14 that she says she “really started to appreciate the art of it.” “I started singing while playing piano and then started learning guitar in my music class at school,” Milla said. “I really enjoyed learning a new instrument and borrowed one of the guitars from school and took it home. Eventually, I ended up getting a guitar for my birthday two years ago and ever since have really aspired to grow my skills every day.” Since then, Milla has balanced teaching instruments to younger children with developing her own sound, which she describes as “all over the place.” “When wanting to play or sing an upbeat, chill song, I typically reach for my guitar. However, when I want to feel more emotional I go to the piano and my voice becomes more powerful. “I can go from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Chris Stapleton to Taylor Swift. I don’t necessarily gravitate towards a genre, just anything that sounds good!” She calls her mother and sisters her biggest musical influences, while crediting the Burdekin community with helping her find her wings in music. “When I was younger I could not even fathom standing on a stage actually singing. However, with the constant support of the Burdekin and music around me, it eventually clicked.” Over the next few years, Milla hopes to begin producing her own music. She also hopes to continue to impart her musical knowledge and passion onto her students. "I love teaching these instruments to younger children, and can hopefully pass my love onto them as well.”

The Burdekin Water Festival’s infamous Grand Parade and Mardi Gras will roll into Queen Street on Saturday the 6th of September, and with a world of preparations underway, one wonderful new addition to the timeless celebration deserves to be highlighted!
As generously sponsored by Wilmar Sugar, 1,000 brilliant buckets will be given away for children to safely collect and store their lollies during the specular Street Parade next weekend, and when all the fun is done, the kids can take the buckets home, ready for the next celebration.
The Burdekin Water Festival Committee hope the buckets will become a memento of the annual celebration, and Ambassador Coordinator, Kari Ravizza, hopes kids will continue to bring the buckets to every festival to come.
“We know that when kids think about the Burdekin Water Festival, they think about the lollies - the excitement is everywhere from those that get to throw them from the floats and then there’s the fun of catching, collecting and eating them,” shared Kari.
“The Committee are excited to see 1,000 happy faces, and 1,000 full buckets, and we’re grateful to Wilmar Sugar for making it possible – it’s one way we can say thank you, and give a little something back to our amazing community for all their support of our Ambassadors and the Festival!”
The buckets will be distributed to children throughout Queen Street prior to the commencement of the Grand Parade on Saturday the 6th of September from 4:30pm and additional details and news can be found on the Burdekin Water Festival’s social media pages and website, burdekinwaterfestival.com.au.

Most people attend comedy shows for the laughs. Some for the spectacle. But few come expecting to pick up a few handy life hacks.
Jimeoin's upcoming 'Pandemonium' show delivers all three.
Hitting the Burdekin Theatre on Thursday, 20 November, the Irish-born comedy legend—whose decades-long career has taken him across the globe—promises an evening of unique material blending observational humour, playful pranks, and moments of relatable absurdity.
Over more than three decades, Jimeoin has toured internationally, starring in and co-writing multiple films, hosted television shows, and performed at major comedy festivals, earning a reputation as one of comedy’s most enduring talents.
His brand-new show, Pandemonium, turns familiar, everyday moments into comedy that resonates universally with audiences.
“My routine comes from day to day experiences," says Jimeoin.
"I don't talk about politics or anything in the news—I avoid all of that. I really try and find those things... that no one else talks about, but it's right in front of your face."
For him, the fun comes from turning the spotlight back on himself. "I just slag myself off... and people seem to identify with it.”
Having performed everywhere from pubs to overseas arenas, Jimeoin admits he always enjoys returning to Australia's tropical regions.
“I love getting up the east coast, I love the tropics—it’s such a different experience,” he said.
Tickets for Pandemonium at the Burdekin Theatre, Ayr, are on sale now, with the show starting at 7:30 PM on Thursday, 20 November.

On Friday, 28th June, 15 debutantes took centre stage at the Home Hill Memorial Hall for the Burdekin Singers’ annual Debutante Ball, this year themed “Enchanted Forest.” The event drew a large crowd of local families, eager to celebrate the young women making their formal debut.
Lawrence Polga, President of the Burdekin Singers, said the ball remains an important tradition.
“We do it because we believe it's an event that still holds a special place to a lot of teenage girls, and is still a tradition that pays respect to not only the females that are making their debutante debut, but also their partners.”
The ball is one of the Burdekin Singers’ biggest events on their calendar and serves both as a community celebration and a fundraiser.
“The Burdekin Singers not only see it as a fundraiser, we also see it as a way to give back to the community that gives a lot to us, and allows us to put on our shows and bring the arts to life in the Burdekin,” Polga said.
Polga credits the volunteers who, in tandem with the Burdekin Singers dedicated sub-committee, worked behind the scenes to ensure the event ran swimmingly.
“It's not just about the night, it's about the lead-up and making sure that the room is in theme, the songs are in theme, and that the kids are made to feel comfortable," explains Polga.
"We help them with hair and make-up bookings, ensure their shoes are suitable for dancing, and source local support for catering and formal wear.”
The evening included choreographed dances for the girls, boys, and couples, making the ball a “mini production” in its own right. Guests included Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort and Member for Burdekin Dale Last, who joined the community in celebrating this longstanding tradition.
All funds raised go directly back into supporting the arts locally, including upgrading facilities at the Lighthouse and stage equipment for performances.

The Burdekin community came together on Wednesday, 30 July, for the annual Ready Set Go event—an initiative driven by passionate volunteers from the Burdekin Early Childhood Network and Ready Set Go committees. Held at Ayr Primary School Hall, the free morning event saw 24 stallholders—including local schools, community groups, and emergency services—offering vital information and support to families with children aged 0–5.
Now in its ninth year, Ready Set Go aims to raise awareness of early childhood services and help families better understand the support available across the Burdekin Shire. “It’s a way for families to engage with services that they don’t normally engage with or know about,” said Ready Set Go committee member Rebecca Aldridge. “It’s a way to educate them about these services and make connections.”
Emergency services were on-site with vehicles, much to the delight of young attendees, while a high-energy dance performance by Ready Set Dance had kids energised and on their feet. Organisers hope the event strengthens connections between families and services ahead of formal schooling.
To stay in the loop or get involved, visit the Burdekin Early Childhood Network Facebook page.

The smooth sounds of timeless standards will echo through the Burdekin Theatre on Wednesday, August 13, as acclaimed Australian vocalist Chris Lloyds presents Morning Melodies: For the Love of Tony & Friends—a soulful musical salute to the great Tony Bennett and other legendary crooners.
Backed by the virtuosic Jamie Rigg Band, Lloyds will take the audience on a nostalgic journey, spotlighting Bennett’s greatest hits—like I Left My Heart in San Francisco—while weaving in gems by fellow crooners that Bennett never recorded.
“I liked the idea of doing some of the songs that Tony didn’t do, that we felt he could have—just to mix it up a little,” Lloyds says.
Once described as “one of Australia’s most broadcast vocalists,” Chris has lent his voice to hit jingles, top session recordings, and major TV appearances—including a stint on Neighbours—all while nurturing a lifelong passion for music.
“I started singing as a choir boy,” he says.
"My grandmother was a wonderful pianist and singer of the jazz standards and the Great American Songbook, and I used to sing with her. I sang Night and Day before I probably sang Baa Baa Black Sheep.”
Lloyds delivers the show with sincerity rather than imitation. “We don’t do dress-ups,” he says.
“We have masterful musicians, and I sing the way I sing—but we're doing the songs that were hits for Bennett and the crooners that everyone recognises.”
Tickets are $15, which includes complimentary morning tea provided by the Friends of the Burdekin Theatre. The show runs from 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM.
Backed by the virtuosic Jamie Rigg Band, Lloyds will take the audience on a nostalgic journey, spotlighting Bennett’s greatest hits. Photo supplied

A fantastic weekend was celebrated by the Burdekin Potters to mark half a century of fostering the arts and clay creativity within the Burdekin community. The celebrations were kicked off with an official opening by Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort at 10am on Saturday, followed by a presentation of “Lifetime Certificates”to long-time members Carolyn Starkey and Meredith Modra, and Patron Isobell Cislowski, who then had the honour of cutting the cake.
A great crowd of locals and visitors turned up for the event! After morning tea was served, the pottery markets, clay making activities, wheel throwing demonstrations and pottery exhibition were open for the public to enjoy. It was a really enjoyable day for the attendees and a lot of interest was generated in our beginners classes!
On Sunday, the Burdekin Potters welcomed the public to witness their spectacular, once-a-year, Raku firing! This firing technique involves a lot of heat, fire and smoke to transform pottery into stunning raku-glazed pieces featuring metallic, black and white crackled highlights.
Whenever the doors are open at the Burdekin Potters clubhouse (situated at Plantation Park), the public are welcome to drop in and have a look around. Beginner classes are run every couple of months, so if pottery is something you may like to try, put your name down to be informed when the next course date is set.
This event was proudly supported by the Burdekin Shire Council.
