Burdekin’s U12 Wildcats have returned from the Queensland Basketball State Championships with three wins from six games, finishing seventh in Division 3 after a series of closely fought matches.
The championships were held in Brisbane during the recent school holidays, with the Wildcats recording wins over South West Metro, Eastside Knights and Townsville.
They opened with a narrow 30-27 loss to Northside Wizards before bouncing back with a 49-22 win over South West Metro and a 66-26 victory against Eastside Knights.
A 50-42 loss to RedCity Roar followed, before the Wildcats went down 32-28 to North Gold Coast Seahawks.
They finished their campaign with a one-point win over Townsville, 29-28.
The result capped a strong season for the young side, which won 10 of 12 games across three NQJBC carnivals in Townsville to claim the competition’s U12 gold medal in August.
The club thanked families and supporters who travelled south for the tournament, as well as coaches Amy, Deb, Addy and Courtney for their work throughout the season.
The team was also supported by sponsors Marathon Mangoes, D & C Pennisi Pty Ltd, Landy’s Mangoes & Produce, Burdekin Chiropractic and Broadie’s Airconditioning & Refrigeration.
