Home Hill's cricket sides recorded mixed results across Second, Third and Fourth Grade last weekend, with Third Grade claiming the club's only win of the round.
The Home Hill Pengelly Cabinets Second Grade team set a competitive target of 124 after solid contributions from Mark Coventry (32), Ayden Marano (28) and Simon Vickers (22). The top order laid a strong foundation, with Home Hill reaching 4/93 before a late Saints fightback restricted the total.
Defending 124, Home Hill's bowlers made Saints work for every run. Captain Ayden Marano led from the front with a superb 4/16 from eight overs, while Mark Nosworthy (2/31) and Lachlan Altmann (1/10) provided excellent support.
The Saints chase went right down to the wire, with Home Hill applying pressure throughout the innings and keeping the result in doubt until the final stages. Despite the spirited effort in the field, Saints AC edged home at 7/125, securing a narrow three-wicket victory.
A strong all-round performance from the Home Hill side, with plenty of positives to take from a match that could have gone either way.
Home Hill Evergreen Sheds posted a formidable 4/230 from 35 overs in Third Grade after being sent in, with Callum Boland blasting 68 from 41 balls and skipper Brad Parravicini finishing unbeaten on 67. Guy Stevenson also contributed 46 as Home Hill built a match-winning total.
In reply, Wanderers were bowled out for 178 in 33.2 overs. Home Hill's bowling attack shared the workload impressively. Darcy Walters was the standout performer, claiming 4/23 from 4.2 overs to clean up the tail and seal the result. Brad Parravicini backed up his batting heroics with 2/19, while Rohit Kumar Kondeti chipped in with 2/37. Roopesh Krishnan and Ross Parker also picked up a wicket each.
The 52-run victory capped off an excellent all-round performance from Home Hill, with the big first-innings total proving beyond Wanderers' reach.
Home Hill ML Partners fought hard in Fourth Grade but came up against a strong Saints Higgins Coatings outfit, going down by 152 runs after Saints posted 8/227 from their 30 overs.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Home Hill had contributors across the board. Travis Butler, Leo Olditch and John Licciardello each claimed two wickets, with Licciardello producing an outstanding spell of 2/10 from three overs. Casey Forrester and Andrew Newman also chipped in with a wicket each.
Chasing a challenging target, Home Hill showed plenty of determination. Cameron Butterworth top-scored with an entertaining knock of 16 from just 13 balls, including four boundaries, while Leo Olditch contributed 14 and Casey Forrester added nine.
While the result didn't go Home Hill's way, there were positives to take from the match, particularly from the bowling and fielding efforts.
