Another busy week for the Home Hill Community Sports Club saw bowls being played throughout, with the main event being Saturday, August 29, when the club hosted its Members’ Invitational Tournament, welcoming visiting clubs from across the Burdekin, North and South.
Forty-eight players took to the village green to compete in a triples event sponsored by All Rigg Townsville in what could only be described as near-perfect conditions.
Lucky winners in the winners’ category were Hugh Montgomery, supported by the Collinsville Country Yokels, with Joe Linton, Bruce McCallum and Eddy from Collinsville taking out the losers’ category. Congratulations go to all the winners.
For an event such as this, the club acknowledges the work done by the ladies working tirelessly in the kitchen and members who took time to prepare food and supply food goods, which all contribute to making the afternoon a success.
Home Hill extends its thanks and gratitude to all the visiting clubs and its members for supporting the event.
Club Competition
The annual club competition continues to progress steadily, with further singles games played during the week.
Game One: Jeff Taylor v Michael Young, with Jeff taking the win.
Game Two: Jeff Taylor v Des Chapman, with Jeff taking the win.
Jeff Taylor will now progress towards his next challenge.
Thursday Club Bowls
Four games of triples were played.
On Rink Three, Hugh Montgomery, Terry Feakes and Chris Holden had a really comfortable win over Alex Bojack, Leanne Wallace and Gordon Braid.
On Rink Four, Trevor Elton, Bob Pickard and Maureen Marsden were too strong for Mick McCluskey, Katarina Stuckler and Betty Webb. However, whilst having a convincing win, the feature of this game was the competition between the two leads, Betty and Maureen, who demonstrated the extent to which their game has improved in a relatively short space of time.
On Rink Six, Joe Linton, Ron Smith, Mick Olsen and Bob Young (shared) had a convincing win over Gary Nosworthy, Bruce McCallum and Paul Vass. Good to see Mick back on the green after a long spell away from it.
On Rink Seven, Glenn Berryman, Dino Poli and Janet Arthur had a win by a close margin over Phil Marsden, Margaret Chapman and Judy Elton.
The random rink winners of the day went to Rink Three: Hugh Montgomery, Terry Feakes and Chris Holden. Congratulations, gentlemen.
The weekly raffle first prize of a bottle of whiskey went to Terry Feakes, with second prize of a bottle of wine going to Laura Webber.
