The St Colman’s 100 organising committee has been extremely busy over the past few months in preparation for Sunday 25th October’s celebration of 100 years since the establishment of the Catholic Parish in Home Hill and district.

‍

A booklet covering the history of the Parish from the early 1900s to the present day has been produced. Much of the information has come directly from the Townsville Diocesan Archives, a momentous task for which we are very grateful.

The history has recorded numerous snippets of interesting facts, together with transfers of priests in and out of the Home Hill Parish plus details of various functions, balls, organisations and changes in Parish and Diocesan life throughout the span of the last 100 years.

‍

Local Parishioners have also contributed photographs to a digital display of different aspects of the Parish with an emphasis on the Priests and Bishops who have made such an imprint on this Parish.

Parish Priest from 1992 to 2009, Father Don Smith, once remarked that the Church was named after one of the 300 Irish Saints named Colman! We are gladly celebrating the contributions of past and present clergy with sincere gratitude for the inspiration they have provided for our Home Hill and district community.

‍

Celebrations on Sunday 25th October will start at 9.00 am with Mass concelebrated by Bishop Tim Harris, Bishop of Townsville. The congregation will then move to the Parish Hall to enjoy remembrances and fellowship.

Everyone is invited to join with the Burdekin Catholic Parish and especially the St Colman’s Home Hill and district community for the morning, as we remember the 100 years of our history.
