Sit Down With Sam

Hi readers

It’s been about two weeks since Ex-Tropical Cyclone Kirrily crossed over north Queensland, but subsequent inland rain has the mighty Burdekin River flowing!

Since my first crossing of the river last year, I’ve longed to see it bank-to-bank full of water, so I’m glad I’ve been able to witness this without any risk of flood – and let me reassure you, there are no flood warnings active for the Burdekin River at the time of writing.

I’m a big fan of rivers (and bridges) so I enjoy the spectacle of crossing the Burdekin every time, no matter how full it is.

One thing the cyclone didn’t stop was a visit from my girlfriend and her friend who stopped into Home Hill over the last couple of weekends on their way up and back to visit another friend in Port Douglas.

As both live in Brisbane, they’d been on quite the drive and were very happy to relax in quiet Home Hill for a couple of days before taking on the next leg of the journey.

I made sure to show them the sights and will be taking them anywhere we missed on their next visit!

Many of our favourite summer sports are back for the year, while the winter sports are getting ready for the pre-season.

Make sure to check out our sport section every week for the latest results, news and achievements, and if you’re club or team has any news, results or accomplishments to share, please feel free to get in touch.

I’m looking forward to getting back into my sport for the year, so I’ll see you out there!
