Former Burdekin Library trainee Nicole Cervoni has been named Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year Award at the 2026 Queensland Training Awards - North Queensland Region.

Announced on 31st July, the honour caps off a stellar 12 months that has seen the Millaroo local make waves across the region through her dedication to community service, youth leadership and vocational excellence.

The Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year Award recognises outstanding achievement by individuals who have recently completed or are finalising a traineeship in Queensland.

During her Certificate III in Business traineeship with Burdekin Shire Council, Nicole juggled her studies and Youth Mayor responsibilities with part-time work at the Library, where she quickly earned a reputation as the "girl with the best book recommendations.”

She notably launched the State Library of Queensland’s Digital Mentors program locally—making Burdekin Library the first in the state to roll out the initiative—and delivered popular community Cricut workshops that fostered local connections.

These milestones followed Nicole’s recognition as the Burdekin Young Citizen of the Year and TAFE Queensland's Business Trainee of the Year in 2025.

Despite her recent successes, she said her nomination for the Queensland Training Awards was already a shock, with her victory last month coming as a bonus.

Her recognition in the North Queensland region means she now enters the running for the State Awards later this year.
