Junior Golfers Tee Off Across The Burdekin

Young golfers from across the region descended on the Burdekin for a big weekend on the green, with the Home Hill and Ayr Junior Opens attracting almost 180 players across the two events.

Around 80 junior golfers took to the course for the Home Hill Junior Open, before just under 100 players competed at the Ayr Junior Open the following day.

The strong weekend of competition included visiting golfers from across North Queensland, while Burdekin juniors also produced some impressive performances on home soil.

‍

Ayr’s Evelyn Mahoney claimed the 9 Hole Girls title, while fellow local Nash Fuller took out the 6 Hole Boys division.

‍

‍

Ayr juniors Andi Perry and Mav Searle completed a successful day for the local contingent, winning the 3 Hole Girls and 3 Hole Boys divisions respectively.

‍

Atherton siblings Cooper and Sienna O’Brian were crowned the 18 Hole Boys and Girls champions, while Mackay’s Sonny Hutchinson claimed the 9 Hole Boys title and Bowen’s Amelia won the 6 Hole Girls division.

‍

Organisers said the winter sunshine provided beautiful conditions for the Ayr event, although the course’s mango trees proved a challenge for some visiting competitors.

‍

The weekend also provided valuable competition ahead of another major event on the local junior golf calendar, with players encouraged to return to the Burdekin for the Karrie Webb Junior Masters in October.
