The weekend marked the return of cricket in Home Hill for the 2026/27 season. Home Hill Cricket Association is again contesting the CNQ Townsville Cricket competition with sides in Second, Third and Fourth grades.
Home Hill produced a true team performance to claim a strong 55‑run victory over Northern Beaches in Round 1 of the Second Grade CNQ competition, defending 170 with excellent control and a match‑winning middle‑overs squeeze led by Tristan Richards (4/5) and Ayden Marano (3/9).
Home Hill’s batting effort was built on contributions across the order rather than one dominant innings, with scores in the 20’s coming from Greg Flanagan (28), Brad Parravicini (25), Kris Wright (23), Isaac Cardillo (22), and Mark Nosworthy (21).
Northern Beaches captain Harjit Gill fought hard with a classy 59, but once he fell at 3/100, Home Hill ripped through the remaining seven wickets for just 15 runs.
Home Hill pulled off a gritty win in their Third Grade Round 1 clash, posting 169 to edge out Wests by seven runs in a tense finish at the Nutrien Ag Solutions Cricket Complex.
After being sent in, Wests began positively but Home Hill’s bowlers chipped away regularly. A major partnership lifted Wests from 3–22 to 4–123, putting them in a strong position, but once Carter Hague fell, the innings began to wobble. Guy Stevenson took 2/19 with ball in hand, but it was a clutch performance of 3/19 from Roopesh Krishnan that stifled Wests innings, who fought hard to reach a total of 9/162.
Home Hill pieced together a competitive 9/169 reply in their 35 overs, built almost entirely around a superb vice-captain’s knock from Guy Stevenson. Coming in early at 2/21, Stevenson anchored the innings with a commanding 85 from 79 balls*, striking 5 fours and 5 sixes and batting through to the end. His innings was the backbone of the total and combined with Dan Olditch’s rapid 33 including 6 fours, sealed a well‑earned victory.
Next week, the Second grade team has a bye, Third grade plays Brothers in Townsville, and the Fourth grade side will play their first game against Wanderers at Fred Jacobsen Oval.
