Home Hill has retained the Col Casswell Shield after claiming the A Grade title at the annual inter-club tennis competition on Saturday, 22nd of August.
The Home Hill team of Hannah Casswell, Ryan Schwab, Ethan Fairley and Michelle Rodgers finished on top in A Grade, while Tennis Townsville claimed the B Grade title.
The Col Casswell Shield was established in 2023 to reinvigorate inter-club tennis across North Queensland and honours the late Col Casswell, a passionate advocate for the sport who played in Proserpine, Mackay, Ayr and Home Hill.
Col also served the Home Hill Tennis Association for many years as secretary and club and regional delegate, as well as serving as a Tennis Queensland board member, before his death from brain cancer at the age of 60.
Home Hill's A Grade success was particularly fitting, with Col's daughter Hannah Casswell part of the winning team.
The club has also strengthened its playing ranks with the arrival of talented players who have moved to the Burdekin for work, including Fairley, who hails from Brisbane, and Rodgers, originally from Hervey Bay.
The victory marks the second consecutive year Home Hill has claimed the shield, continuing the club's strong showing in the competition.
