Home Hill Bowlers Welcome Visitors Amid Week Of Highs And Lows

It was a week of mixed emotions for Home Hill Community Sports Club members, with the club welcoming new faces and celebrating community connections while also dealing with an unfortunate act of vandalism.

Sadly, on Thursday, July 16, vandals gained entry to the HHCSC grounds, resulting in lawn bowls and practice equipment being stolen.

As a not-for-profit club that offers the community a place to enjoy the sport of bowls and other activities, it is concerning to think this level of behaviour exists within our community. Should any member of the community know who might be responsible, please notify the appropriate authorities.

On a brighter note, members welcomed touring visitors Graham and Velia Stewart from Bundaberg, along with Jo and Dean Taylor, who are currently staying at the Groper Creek Caravan Park. Both couples enjoyed the club's hospitality and social atmosphere, especially Jo and Dean, who were first-time bowlers. Members hope to see them all again.

It was also pleasing to see Chris Holden return following his game last week, which could indicate the lawn bowls bug has taken hold. The club also welcomed Steve Mutu from Giru, who has become a dual member. Welcome aboard, Steve, who is no stranger to the club and a generous supporter of the club raffle.

Wednesday night's social bowls attracted another good attendance, with two games of triples and two games of pairs played. The weather at this time of year is perfect for anyone considering having a game. Names are in by 5.30pm for a 6pm start. Phone 0468 313 115.

Thursday club bowls saw an excellent roll-up, with six games of triples played.

On Rink 2, Jo Roser, Katarina Stucker and Bob Young defeated Jeff Taylor, Velia Stewart and Judy Elton.

On Rink 3, Charlie Cheetham's team recorded a convincing win over Scott Taylor's team.

On Rink 4, Keith Roser, John Hobson and Betty Webb also claimed a convincing victory over Phil Marsden, Dino Poli and Terry Feakes.

On Rink 5, Colleen Olsen, Steve Mutu and Maureen Marsden went down to Mick McCloskey, Les Hoey and Dean Taylor, with credit to the Olsen team for giving it their all.

On Rink 6, Joe Linton, Sandra Darwin and Gordon Braid edged out Hugh Montgomery, Nev Webb and Bob Pickard in a game that could have gone either way until the final end.

On Rink 7, Graham Stewart, Janet Arthur and Paul Vass recorded a comfortable win over Rob Darr, Margaret Linton and Chris Holden.

As the saying goes, winners are grinners. Congratulations to all. For those not so lucky, there's always next week.

In the club raffle, first prize of fresh fish went to Dino Poli, while second prize, also fresh fish, went to Terry Feakes. Congratulations to both winners.

Saturday play featured one game of triples and two games of pairs on what was a perfect sunny winter afternoon. Anyone considering having a game should nominate by 1pm for a 1.30pm start. Phone 0468 313 115.
