A 4.915kg barramundi earned Kyla Turnbull the Roy’s Biggest Barra Trophy at the Giru International Hotel’s annual October Long Weekend Fishing Classic last.
The three-day event brought junior and senior anglers together for a weekend of fishing, competitions, raffles and prizes, with the main catch weighed in on Sunday 4th October.

Saturday night’s cast net throwing competition was won by Nathan Zabel, while junior angler Rory Widderick impressed by showing some of the senior competitors how it was done.
Sunday’s weigh-in ran from noon to 3pm, followed by presentations from 4pm, with junior and senior anglers competing for prizes.
‘Swampy’ took home the event’s major prize package, valued at $2800, while minor prize winners received Bundaberg fishing shirts and Great Northern fishing hats.

The weekend also featured a Friday meet-and-greet, raffles, a barbecue and a Sunday lunch, with proceeds from a raffle supporting the Rural Fire Service.
Organisers thanked the anglers, patrons, local supporters and hotel staff who helped make the annual competition another success.
