A 45-year-old Ayr man is facing multiple traffic and animal cruelty charges after allegedly performing a burnout in front of an unmarked police vehicle on Sunday 20th September.

‍

Police were parked on Graham Street at 4pm when a white Ford Falcon utility—carrying a dog in the tray—allegedly performed the burnout.

Officers intercepted the vehicle on Drysdale Street shortly after. The driver was breath-tested and returned an alleged blood alcohol concentration of 0.198.

‍

He was subsequently charged with one count each of driving under the influence of liquor, wilfully making unnecessary smoke, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle, unlicensed driving, and animal cruelty.

‍

Police confiscated the vehicle's registration plates for 90 days.

Senior Sergeant Lisa Shields condemned the alleged actions.

‍

“This is deliberate driving conduct that can put lives at risk and undermines community safety,” Senior Sergeant Shields said.

“The consequences of this dangerous behaviour can be catastrophic.

‍

“Ayr Police are committed to targeting dangerous driving offences through high-visibility patrols and strong enforcement action.”

‍

The man is scheduled to appear in the Ayr Magistrates Court on 19th October.
