The Delta Cleaners Night Soccer Grand Finals were held at International Park last Friday. A very big crowd turned up to watch the fifteen games in this, the 45th Season of Night Soccer. In the Big Games, Mottin Earthmovers and Nutrien Ladies prevailed again but there were some upsets in the other games.
In the Men’s A Grade final Mottin Earthmoving retained the Cup with a 2-0 defeat of Rocky Pond Warriors. Goal scorers for the Earthmovers were Josh Valle and Jared Giardina. Mottin’s have won the A Grade trophy for the last three years and seven times in the last eight years. Rocky Ponds Warriors were competing in Night Soccer for the first time and did very well.
The Ladies A Grade final was taken out for the third season in a row by Nutrien Ladies. They defeated UDS Ladies 4-0 with two goals from Kate Southern and one each from mother and daughter teammates Monica and Amaia Licciardello.
One of the highlights of the evening was the play off for the Ferg Holden Drinkers trophy. This was won by Borin n Scorin who beat Faircall 2-0. Most of the games were fairly close, as befits the finals, with four games going to extra time and Drop offs and two of those games going to Shoot Outs.

A bit of history: Night Soccer began in 1979 in Home Hill at the Home Hill Football Club with just eight teams. The competition transferred to Brothers in Ayr the following year. In 1981 the Ayr Parkside Panthers had had their flood lights installed at International Park and the competition has been played there ever since. Delta Cleaners were the inaugural sponsors and have stayed with us ever since. This must be some sort of record.
