Twenty-eight Ayr SLSC competitors, from U8s to Masters, took on members from across the North Barrier Branch over the weekend at the Forrest Beach SLSC carnival. The crew took on all the usual events as well as skis, tube races and R&R.
There were strong individual performances by all members, and everyone stepped it up another level to put 110% into team events with some extremely exciting and fun relays taking place. Ayr ended up taking out 2nd place overall at the end of the carnival, which was a great result for a small contingent of competitors.
The entire branch also honoured the memory of Forrest Beach much-loved Patrol and Life Member, Kauko Kaurila following the Colour Party March Past. Patrolling members and competitors formed a guard of honour and cadet members from all clubs paddled out to lay a wreath to honour his remarkable life and the lasting legacy he leaves behind. The morning was a beautiful tribute to a man who has left a lasting contribution to the entire surf lifesaving community.
The club is now looking forward to their official "100 Summers" Book launch on Saturday 24th October from 5pm at the Ayr SLSC Clubhouse where members and the wider community can come together to wrap up their official 100 year celebrations.
