Wheels In Motion Green Light for Anzac Park’s New State-of-the-Art Hub Work on the Burdekin’s new state-of-the-art pump track is racing toward the finish line, with construction at Anzac Park officially scheduled to break ground this April. The project, which was first announced in June 2025 as the “hero” of Burdekin Shire Council’s $2.8 million investment in regional parks, is nearing the end of its design phase following two rounds of community consultation. Situated within the former junior soccer field adjacent to the existing skate park, the facility is designed to cater to everyone from beginners to seasoned professionals across scooters, BMX bikes, skateboards, and mountain bikes. The project is backed by $760,000 from the Queensland Government’s 2024-27 Works for Queensland (W4Q) program. Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort said the final design was a direct reflection of local input. “The Anzac Park Pump Track is a great example of how community feedback helps Council deliver facilities that meet local needs and encourage people of all ages to be active,” Mayor Dalle Cort said. “Pump tracks are designed to be inclusive and accessible, catering for a range of users including bikes, scooters and skateboards. This facility will add to Anzac Park’s existing recreational offerings and provide a safe, purpose-built space for the entire community to enjoy.” The track forms a major part of a broader shire-wide recreational upgrade, providing a dedicated space for wheeled sports that complements the existing park infrastructure. Member for Burdekin Dale Last said the project highlighted the benefits of making the Works for Queensland program a permanent fixture under the Crisafulli Government. “Our government has made the Works for Queensland program a permanent fixture that allows local government to put forward projects based on their consultation with local people and groups,” Mr Last said. “That means that we, as the state government, can deliver funding to support local jobs and local projects that make our communities better places to live.” Council confirmed that construction will commence in April, with further updates to be provided as the site transforms into a key recreational asset for the region.

The Sweet FM Saturday markets have been a revelation for Home Hill and the wider Burdekin community since they began earlier this year.
“I’ve been genuinely surprised as to how well they’ve been received,” says Charlie Scuderi, 97.1 Sweet FM’s Station Manager.
“It only came about during our 25th Birthday Celebrations back in April, in what we thought would be a one-off,” he says. “But all the stallholders who attended that day were incredi-bly happy with the turnout, and so they requested more.”
“We’ve been running them ever since, adding new stalls such as a much loved Fruit & Veg stand, a meat truck, and other homemade treats and handicrafts, all to the background of our live broadcast. It really has taken on a life of its own,” Charlie smiles.
Perennial stall holders, and market faves such as Sweetsville, and the Rotary Club, have been part of Saturday markets since the beginning, with others joining in as the word has spread.
“With Saturdays usually pretty quiet here, the markets bring colour and life to Home Hill. They get folks across the bridge, with many then visiting other local businesses in the area such as The Prawn Shop,” Charlie says.
“While tourists pull off the Bruce Highway during their travels in either direction, to stop by and visit, taking home some items and other goodies for their efforts,” Charlie adds.
The 97.1 Sweet FM Saturday markets are held once a month until November, where they’ll pause ahead of the wet season. If you get along, be sure to request a song as you browse, and don’t forget to collect a ticket for the lucky door prize, which is made up of a mix of great items generously donated by the stallholders.
The next market kicks off at 8am, Saturday, 13th of September, and runs through to 1pm.

A decade and a half ago, he announced himself to the nation when he became the first magician to finish runner-up on Australia’s Got Talent.
In the years following, he became a global phenomenon, with nine prime-time TV specials seen in over 40 countries, multiple Merlin Awards, sold-out international shows, and even a role alongside Jackie Chan in the blockbuster film Bleeding Steel.
And now, international mega-star Cosentino is bringing his fresh, multi-million-dollar 'TRICKED' show to the Burdekin's doorstep, giving locals a chance to experience firsthand the mesmerising illusions, daring escapes, and close-up magic that has rocked the world.
Set to grace the Burdekin Theatre on 15 September, the 90-minute spectacle promises Cosentino's customary high-energy antics—but this time, with entirely new, jaw-dropping stunts and tricks.
"It’s got crazy, death-defying escapes, grand illusions, people appearing, disappearing, levitating, and close-up magic projected onto giant screens," he said. "I've built on my experience to create brand-new pieces I know audiences will love, and that I’ll enjoy performing every night."
To call TRICKED a mere magic show sells it short. What Cosentino and his team bring to the stage is much closer to a living storyline, with equal parts theatre, comedy, spectacle and drama.
"A good film has drama, romance, maybe humour, maybe danger. That’s what I aim for," he said. "First, I earn your trust and connection—show some magic, bring someone up on stage, show a lighter side. Then, when I do a dangerous escape, you care whether I survive."
He fuses current social trends with his own distinct style, keeping the show dynamic while ensuring every trick, escape, and moment is unmistakably Cosentino.
"It’s about being current—knowing what’s happening in the world, in fashion, in culture—without blindly following trends. I’ve got my own distinct style, but it’s grounded in the present moment, and that's what makes the show unique," he said.
Cosentino’s fascination with magic began in childhood, inspired by books and posters of Harry Houdini. He taught himself handcuff escapes and illusions, honing his craft long before he stepped on national television. That early curiosity and dedication laid the foundation for the international stardom he enjoys today.
But despite his international stature, Cosentino still relishes returning to the regional towns that first embraced his magic.
"Regional audiences embraced me before anyone else did… I'll never forget that," he said. "I give them the same show we take to capital cities and overseas. It probably doesn’t make sense logistically—I bring a semi-trailer full of gear. But they deserve it."
For Burdekinites, that means a rare opportunity to witness a world-class magician in action, right in their own backyard. You can grab your tickets at: https://tinyurl.com/2care8q6.

The Burdekin Water Festival’s infamous Grand Parade and Mardi Gras will roll into Queen Street on Saturday the 6th of September, and with a world of preparations underway, one wonderful new addition to the timeless celebration deserves to be highlighted!
As generously sponsored by Wilmar Sugar, 1,000 brilliant buckets will be given away for children to safely collect and store their lollies during the specular Street Parade next weekend, and when all the fun is done, the kids can take the buckets home, ready for the next celebration.
The Burdekin Water Festival Committee hope the buckets will become a memento of the annual celebration, and Ambassador Coordinator, Kari Ravizza, hopes kids will continue to bring the buckets to every festival to come.
“We know that when kids think about the Burdekin Water Festival, they think about the lollies - the excitement is everywhere from those that get to throw them from the floats and then there’s the fun of catching, collecting and eating them,” shared Kari.
“The Committee are excited to see 1,000 happy faces, and 1,000 full buckets, and we’re grateful to Wilmar Sugar for making it possible – it’s one way we can say thank you, and give a little something back to our amazing community for all their support of our Ambassadors and the Festival!”
The buckets will be distributed to children throughout Queen Street prior to the commencement of the Grand Parade on Saturday the 6th of September from 4:30pm and additional details and news can be found on the Burdekin Water Festival’s social media pages and website, burdekinwaterfestival.com.au.

Most people attend comedy shows for the laughs. Some for the spectacle. But few come expecting to pick up a few handy life hacks.
Jimeoin's upcoming 'Pandemonium' show delivers all three.
Hitting the Burdekin Theatre on Thursday, 20 November, the Irish-born comedy legend—whose decades-long career has taken him across the globe—promises an evening of unique material blending observational humour, playful pranks, and moments of relatable absurdity.
Over more than three decades, Jimeoin has toured internationally, starring in and co-writing multiple films, hosted television shows, and performed at major comedy festivals, earning a reputation as one of comedy’s most enduring talents.
His brand-new show, Pandemonium, turns familiar, everyday moments into comedy that resonates universally with audiences.
“My routine comes from day to day experiences," says Jimeoin.
"I don't talk about politics or anything in the news—I avoid all of that. I really try and find those things... that no one else talks about, but it's right in front of your face."
For him, the fun comes from turning the spotlight back on himself. "I just slag myself off... and people seem to identify with it.”
Having performed everywhere from pubs to overseas arenas, Jimeoin admits he always enjoys returning to Australia's tropical regions.
“I love getting up the east coast, I love the tropics—it’s such a different experience,” he said.
Tickets for Pandemonium at the Burdekin Theatre, Ayr, are on sale now, with the show starting at 7:30 PM on Thursday, 20 November.
